Another reason the book of Isaiah is called a “mini Bible” is because of its connections to the Old and New Testaments. The first 39 chapters of Isaiah mainly deal with the Jewish people, the Law, man’s rebellion against God and God’s judgment on man. It is striking that these are the themes of the 39 books of the Old Testament. The last 27 chapters of Isaiah mainly deal with God’s comforting words of forgiveness and promises of the coming Messiah (the Savior), which are likewise represented in the 27 books of the New Testament.

Example:

ISAIAH Chapter 1
…I have nourished and brought up children and they have rebelled against me. (Isaiah 1:2)
Ah sinful nation laden with iniquity… (Isaiah 1:4)
…when you make many prayers, I will not hear… (Isaiah 1:15)
…they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them. (Isaiah 1:31)
ISAIAH Chapter 40
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. (Isaiah 40:1)
…that her iniquity is pardoned… (Isaiah 40:2)
…Prepare ye the way of the Lord… (Isaiah 40:3)
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd… (Isaiah 40:11)

This drastic change in theme has caused some Bible scholars to question, if the book of Isaiah could have had two different authors. But of course God is the divine author of this incredible work and the prophet Isaiah was only God’s secretary.

Many study-Bibles divide the book of Isaiah into two parts.
ISAIAH Part A, chapters 1-39 and ISAIAH Part B, chapters 40-66

Some study-Bibles add notes explaining the change from God’s judgment (in part A) to God’s forgiveness (in part B). However in many cases, the people writing these study-notes FAIL to realize that this division represents the division of the Old and the New Testaments. For example, the American Catholic version of the Bible, makes this division after chapter 39 and explains the change; but has blindly mixed the apocryphal books into the Jewish Old Testament, giving their version more than 66 books. If one book is added to or taken from the word of God, the connections God placed in Isaiah are like a broken chain with nothing to connect to, and God’s stamp of approval is removed. The last chapter of the Bible gives strong warning that nothing should be added to or taken from the word of God.

Some people suggest that the Bible has missing books or that certain books may not be inspired. The Isaiah connections clearly disprove these theories. The Lord gives us His authorization to all 66 books of the Bible, with the connections He placed in the book of Isaiah. These connections are the Holy Spirit’s signature on every book of the Bible.

“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man:
but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (II Peter 1:21)

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (II Timothy 3:16)
