In the sample for Isaiah chapter 19, the Lord makes several connections to the 19th Christian book and the 19th Jewish book with:

  • People crying unto God
  • God delivering those who cry unto him
  • People making vows and offering sacrifices to God

In the book of Psalms these connections are repeated over and over.
In Jonah there are two separate accounts that make all these connections first the mariners in chapter one and then Jonah in chapter two.

ISAIAH 19:20
…they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour…and he shall deliver them.
21 And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it.

PSALM 54:1
Save me…
2 Hear my prayer…
6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name…
7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble…
Psalm 66:13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
14 Which my lips have uttered… when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices
17 I cried unto him with my mouth…
19 But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
Psalm 116:4 then called I upon the name of the LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul
6 …and he helped me
8 …for thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears
14 I will pay my vows unto the LORD…
17 I will offer thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving…
18 I will pay my vows

JONAH 1:14
Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life…
15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
Jonah 2:1 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly,
2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

In Jonah 3:8 the people of Nineveh also cry unto God and are delivered.
