The book of Philemon only has 25 verses, but has several connections

In the first sample for Isaiah chapter 57, the Lord makes a connection to the 57th book of the Bible by giving peace to the people that receive God’s healing.

ISAIAH 57:2 He shall enter into peace… each one walking in his uprightness.
19 Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.
20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
21 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

PHILEMON: 2to the church in thy house:
3 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the second sample, the Lord makes a connection with a sinner being unprofitable, but God can heal them and make the profitable.

ISAIAH 57:11 …thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me (GOD)…
12 I will declare thy (self) righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.
17 …he went on forwardly (backsliding) in the way of his heart.
18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also…
19 I create the fruit of the lips;

PHILEMON: 10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten (lead to Christ) in my bonds: (while in prison).
11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
13 Whom I would have retained with me that… he might have ministered unto me.

In the third sample, a connection is made with God’s people having their heart, their spirit revived, refreshed.

ISAIAH 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

PHILEMON: 7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

Webster 1828 dictionary:

  • Refresh, To revive; … to cheer; To revive that which is drooping…
  • Reviver, That which revives… or refreshes
  • Bowels, …The heart… inward part of anything… the seat of pity or kindness…
